Looking to have intelligent conversation with fellow book enthusiasts? Skip the coffee mornings...join a book club!

We don’t recommend just any old book club. You want a book club that has interesting books, excellent conversation, and an accountable but chilled vibe. Book clubs are born and die every month in Dubai so you also want a book club that is likely to be around in 6 months.

If you’re looking to join a book club in Dubai, check out our roundup of the best ones.

Dubai Bibliophiles Book Club - Best Classic Book Club

Dubai Bibliophiles Book Club

The Dubai Bibliophiles Book Club is one of the top and longest running book clubs in Dubai for a number of reasons. First, it’s well organized so you know the books for the next few months ahead of time (plenty of time to rent them from Bookish.ae!). Moreover, the books chosen are actually interesting. Think a mix of new bestsellers, literary interests, local favorites, and books everyone is talking about. In addition, they meet consistently, so you can block the time on your schedule because you KNOW there’s going to be a meeting. Most importantly, they actually talk about books. No mix of nappy changing stories with cricket discussion with school horror stories. Just good, old fashioned book talk.

Book Club Schedule: 7.00 pm every third Saturday (3 weeks between each session)
Meeting Location: Book Munch Cafe

TwitBookClub - Best Social Media Book Club

Want to participate in a book club but don’t want to battle traffic or get out of your pajamas? Well social media savvy book lovers should consider joining the TwitBookClub. This book club’s discussion happens on Twitter and revolves around 3 monthly selections. You can read one or all the books and participate in the conversation by following the TwitBookClub on Twitter. To get in the discussion, you just have to tweet or reply to a tweet. Super simple! At Bookish.ae, we haven’t been following the book club in the past, but we will start carrying the books from the TwitBookClub soon so you will be able to rent from Bookish.ae and jump into their discussions on Twitter.

Book Club Schedule: Saturdays, once a month, from 1100
Meeting Location: Twitter, sometimes Kinokuniya in Dubai Mall

Mrs. Darcy’s Book Club at Spontiphoria - Best Ladies Only Book Club

Every heard of Spontiphoria Boutique and Cafe? Nope? Neither had we until they started a book club...but we are so happy they did! Mrs. Darcy’s Book Club at Spontiphoria is the perfect book club for ladies who want to lunch with great conversation. The reading list ranges from serious (The Assassination of Margaret Thatcher by Hilary Mantel) to contemporary favorites (The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd). This book club has been around for less than a year but is proving to be consistent in its meetings and the quality of women’s literature being read. Enjoy books with like-minded ladies plus tea, cake, and sandwiches! Sounds like a perfect Saturday.

Book Club Schedule: 2nd Saturday of the month at 4:00 pm
Meeting Location: Spontiphoria Boutique and Cafe

Just as in the adult version, little book lovers will read books by Emirates Litfest authors every month. The 360 degree literary experience of this book club could make a great impact on your little one if you also attend Emirates Litfest. One other great benefit of this book club is that your little one will be exposed to new authors beyond the standard school syllabus or popular Diary of a Wimpy Kid variety. Bookish.ae Very Ready Reading Story Times - Best Book Clubs for Birth to 24 Months and 2 and 3 Year Olds
Bookish Storytime Dubai

Of course we can’t do a round up without mentioning the story times we offer for babies and toddlers. Since the little ones can’t read yet, we read books to them based around weekly themes. To ensure the entire experience is fun and interactive, we also sing, dance, and craft based on that weeks theme. For babies, rather than a craft activity, we do sensory play in story themed sensory bins. Story times are twice a week and we only don’t have them when there are holidays. The reading selection varies widely from classics to new favorites to delightful books you’ve never heard of! Check out our Facebook page to see photos and videos taken by families that have attended.

Book Club Schedule: Sundays at 4:00 pm and Wednesdays at 11:00 am
Meeting Location: Bookish.ae office
